SPI PHOTO ALBUM - June, 2004

(6/26/04) That Was Some Storm, Hey?

I imagine this cabana tent wasn't the only one trashed by Friday night's big wind storm, but it was the only one I encountered on my way to a Saturday morning sand castle lesson.

We have been getting a whole bunch of the wet stuff this past week, but you can hardly complain when it rains at night and the next morning breaks sunny and beautiful, right?

Okay, so maybe the owners of the tent have reason to whine...

(6/24/04) Gorgeous SPI Sunset #543

...and it's a Rorschach Test as well! Do you see a.) a dancer ; b.) a moose ; c.) another thunderstorm hitting the mainland or d.) none of the above?

Well, that explains a lot ;-)

This was shot by our good friend Jamey who is having way too much fun with his camera these days. See more of his best shots here.

(6/21/04) Off You Go - Good Luck!

The eggs are hatching daily; we understand that nearly 200 baby Kemps Ridley sea turtles have been released into the Gulf this week - including the little fellow pictured above. Thanks to Jamey Fountain for another great shot (see sunset photo below.)

Sunset - 6/13/04

Your humble web wiz is getting on a plane today to head to yet another sand sculpture contest, so I will leave you to contemplate yet another beautiful Island sunset. This was shot by our good friend Jamey who is having way too much fun with his camera these days. See more of his best shots here.

6/13/04 - No, We Didn't Win the Leather Giraffe

... but the real winners did graciously take our picture with it.

Fred and I had big fun at the CATsino benefit for the Laguna Madre Humane Society last night - at the SPI La Quinta. I did better at the blackjack table then I ever have when real money was involved -- and we danced up a storm. Everyone sure seemed to bve enjoying themselves and we hope the event raised lots of loot for the LMHS and all the good work they do for our community.

It is probably just as well that we didn't win the giraffe -- how would we have gotten it home on the motorcyle?

6/10/04 - Do You Recognize this Bridge?

"I am from MA and will be vistiing South Padre Island next week, June 12 for the 4th time. I was there February 20-29 and took these pictures. I thought I would share them with you."

Thanks Marilyn for some great shots - like the one of the Bahia Mar above. Those of us who live here forget sometimes how nicely landscaped that hotel's grounds are...

6/8/04 - 100 % Chance of Weather

As a professional sand sculptor, I am often asked, "What happens when it rains?" My stock (smart-a**ed) answer is: Puddles form, tourists whine and smart sand sculptors get in out of it.

We got the major rain thing happening down here today. I feel bad for the tourists - really I do. But - in the silver lining department - my garden is loving it.

6/6/04 - D-Day in Sand

We don't know who carved this sand sculpture but it is a good one - and this seems an appropriate time to post it....
