Summer 2001

"Sky On Fire"

This gorgeous shot of a gorgeous SPI sunset was shot and graciously shared by our good friend Rod Zeno. (copywrite 2001, Rodney Zeno)

Balde and Renetta (of "Angel Baby" fame) are still doing what they do so well over at the upstairs deck at Louie's. We stopped by the other evening and were treated to a preview taste of their new CD featuring "The Brew", Art Mendoza and other local and formerly local musicians. Copies will be available soon and I think they are going to sell like hotcakes - this is good stuff!

August 3, 2001

The 63rd TIFT (Texas International Fishing Tournament) is underway and island resident and photographer Dennis Barrett will be covering the action for the TV hunting and fishing show "Today's Hunter" on the Outdoor Channel. Registration for TIFT is wednesday and thursday at the convention center and fishing is on Friday and Saturday. (and if you catch one of those nasty SirCam PC virus worms, grab your fishin' pole, put that worm on a hook and go fishin'!)

SPI Building Boom in Action

One of the last in-town stretches of natural beach was recently cleared and flattened in preparation for the building of a two-tower condominium complex. I can't help but wonder what happened to all the little critters that used to call the vegetation home....

Chamber Mixer at Bahia Mar

members of the SPI Chamber of Commerce were treated to a a first look at the resort's new lobby bar and a taste of the facility's excellent catering offerings. Very impressive! (photos by Laurie Gaudie)

almost too pretty to eat

Happy Birthday Jackie!

The locals turned out in force for "Wacky Jackie's" big 4-OH! party at Louie's - music by Toby Beau. (That's Jackie on the left with Georgianna) See more pics of this party - click here

Goodbye K.C.

The Island lost a favorite son this week - KC Wood of Black Beards' fame (pictured above, right, with his buddy Tony Schaub) passed away suddenly of what appeared to be a massive heart attack. He will be sorely missed.

Also gone but not forgotten - Charter Captain Jesse Sloss - after a protracted battle with cancer. We hope the big ones are biting wherever you guys are...

krusty's

Kudos to Krusty's....

...for innovative marquis messages

After the Squall 7/3/01

The beach this morning was littered with carcasses similar to the one pictured here - victims of yesterday's wind and rain.

We feel bad for the folks here on vacation, but the Island really needed the downpour and our yards are all smiling today...
