SPRING BREAK 2002 Newsletter Archives

Issue #6 - posted 3/08/02

Greetings one and all from SPIonline!

I am still trying to recover from a week in the Bahamas but I
know that many of you are already packing your bags and I wanted
to get one more newsletter off before you head out of town.I
gather that many of you are suffering extreme stress from exams
and chilly temperatures - so hopefully this newsletter will
give you a few moments in a space where bikinis replace
woolies and the beer flows freely....

New Feature on SPIonline.com - DadCam!
My parental units own a condo on the 12th floor of Saida Royale
(too bad they waited until I had graduated to acquire it) and
they have enjoyed watching many spring breaks from this vantage
point. Dad got his first digital camera not too long ago and has
promised to forward me daily pics of the crowd situation at the
Rad's Coca Cola Beach for posting on SPIonline.com. If you are
staying at the Royale and runacross a handsome older gentleman
with a full head of silver hairsharking after a tennis game - it is
probably Dad Feets so besure to say howdy -- he'll get a kick
out of it =)

Concerts Etc.
Schlitterbahn has updated its concert schedule: watch for
"Mystikal" (3/12); "Flicker Stick" (3/14) and the Delphines
(3/17.) Rumor has it they will be adding foam parties too!

Come Play at Schlitterbahn! We are spring break friendly,
featuring live music all day every day and live partying all
night every night -- all for one low entry fee. For more info,
visit our web-site or give us a call at 956-772-7873. See you
in March!

Gallagher - Smashing things LIVE at the SPI convention center
on March 23 at 8 PM. I have a 6-pack of tickets to give away to
some lucky subscriber, so if you and five friends will be here
then and would like to catch the show, drop me a message telling
me why you think I should give them to you!

Booze Cruise - It's a spring break tradition!
Leisure Tours International is offering them every Monday in
March but if that doesn't fit in your schedule, you have other
options as well, including daily cruises (2-4 PM) out of
Fisherman's Wharf (956-761-7818 for info) and Breakaway Cruises
(advertising .10 beers, 3-5 PM daily - 761-2212 for info.) Parrot
Eyes is advertising daily bikini contests (starting at 3 PM)
followed by a bikini cruise.

Karaoke
- I noticed this topic has popped up on the forum so all
singin' fools should report to Brennan's Third Coast, open at
7 PM every night with all Karaoke and happy hour prices all the
time.... OR Coconuts, which will have Karaoke with "Tequila Leah"
as well as some great live music.

Kegs - Some quick research turned up the following info: Circle
Drive-In (Port Isabel - pick it up on your way over) has good
prices... $59-79; Ben's Liquor Store (3 locations on the Island)
has kegs for 69.99 (generic) and 79.99 (premium); and Island Shack
(the red barn across from Whataberger) has a good selection for
59.99 - 77.99. The shack (956-761-1368) will deliver kegs, beer,
pizzas and burgers to the island location of your choice.
Feldman's Liquor store is advertising "warehouse prices" on other
spirits, but they do not have kegs.

Laws that Can Affect You - I have already posted Mike, the
Island Attorney's article on the new open container law, but did
you know that as of this year it is illegal for anyone under the
age of 18 to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck? You can be
sure local officials will be watching closely for infractions of
this one. Another word to the wise: don't speed through Los
Fresnos or Port Isabel... and we hear there have been quite a few
tickets issued on the far side of Laguna Vista where the speed
limit suddenly drops from 65 to 55.

Meal Deals
- here are a few suggestions for making your food
bucks go further: Amberjack's Upstairs Bar is offering oysters
for $3/doz. and $2.50 margaritas on the rocks (while supplies
last) every day from 5-7 PM; get a $1.50 burger at coconuts;
free BBQ at Krusty's 5-7 PM every day, and - if you like all you
can eat buffets - try the Radisson - pizza and pasta bar Tues. &
Fri., Mexican on Wed. Also, Bigo's is offering a group special -
fajitas, grilled onions, beans, chips & salsa for 5 people for
just $18.95 and I am here to tell you they make a very fine
fajita.

Souvie deals - Check out Ship Shape (north end) for discounts
with your school ID - great selection of everything you need to
enjoy the beach and really friendly service.

Mexico - We hear that the hot clubs there this year will be
"Crazy Lazy" and "Zero Zone" - the first two clubs past the
Gateway Bridge. "25% discount to enter both clubs and you get a
free shot! Buy your first yard, get FREE refills all night, plus
keep the glass as a souvenir!"

Winners! Since some of the past weeks' winners failed to claim
their prizes, I am giving away five (5!) free day/night passes to
Schlitterbahn this week. Josh Dockens, Matt Goins, "nick", Jeff
Murman and Tom Jordan need to get right back to me with their
snail mail info so I can get these passes to you before you leave
for SPI.

Shameless Request - If you find any of this information useful, kindly tell your bartender/host/proprietor that "sandy feet" sent you. A little
good will goes a long way down here (I have acquired some small
amount of fame locally for working real hard at not having a real
job) and positive feedback will keep me fired up for doing this
job even better next year. Please keep your wits about you, don't
do anything stupid, pick up after yourselves whenever possible
and - most important - have a great time on our Island!

Reminder: If you are new to this list, be sure to check out
the archived back-issues as many of the info there is still
pertinent and may answer some of the questions you have included
in your subscription form. To access the archives, click here.
